Quality Over Quantity
Sustainability seems to be trending across the fashion & textile industries. My decision to create made-to-wear garments was a fiscal one to help me manage inventory. In addition, I had no desire to mass produce any particular design. My focus has always been on “Quality Over Quantity”. In order to ensure that every customer receives a garment that they are proud to wear time and time again…it takes time. Time to source high quality fabrics, time to create designs that are fashionable, classic and versatile enough to be worn for more than just one occasion and time to construct a garment that will last year after year and season after season. Chapter 17 of my blog, “Show Me Your Friend and I Will Show You Who Your Are”, talks about the steps buyers can take to identify and shop for good quality artisanal garments. If you are interested in purchasing specialty clothing but you do now know where to start, I recommend reading this chapter. In the meantime, one key ingredient that I can share when searching is that you should look a little deeper. Turn the garment inside out. The interior should look just as good as the exterior. No frayed seams and no hanging threads. You should be able to see that the garment will be able to handle the rumble & tumble of the washing machine. Always remember that a few high-quality pieces in your wardrobe beats a stockpile of poorly constructed clothing any day.
